Building Concern

Parents, starting tomorrow the middle school staff will be paying special attention to a growing concern of students drinking energy drinks during the day. In addressing the energy drink concern, we also need to address the types of water bottles that students are permitted to have during the school day.

Today, I shared and email with our students highlighting the energy drink issue and explaining the expectations that begin tomorrow. In addition to the email, I will also make a building wide announcement informing students of this information. Thank you for supporting our efforts to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our students.

The following is the email that was shared with our students today:

I am contacting you today regarding a concern I have in the building. There has been a significant increase in students possessing and drinking energy drinks such as Monster. The student code of conduct addresses this issue. I have included the code of conduct information for you below.

Energy Drinks:  Students are not to drink or possess highly caffeinated and/or energy drinks at any time at the middle school including extracurricular and sporting events.  (pg. 10)

The staff at CMS wish to promote a healthy and safe environment, which is why students are permitted to carry water bottles during the school day. With that said, water is the only thing that should be in a student’s water bottle. I have a reasonable concern that students are pouring energy drinks into water bottles during the day to drink.

To address my concern, starting tomorrow, if a student is carrying a water bottle, it must be clear!

Any water bottles that are not clear will be confiscated. Please see some examples provided below. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
